The People You Will Find In OpenSims
Relating to others in a virtual world environment demands a certain amount of acceptance regarding how others function. Expecting people to act the same way as they do in real life is probably not as valid of a an approach as assuming that each of us will manifest the best of ourselves, especially when it comes to whatever is the main reason that attracted us to enjoying virtual relationships in the first place.
By keeping this in mind, as well as understanding that there are those whose lives are genuinely bettered thanks to having a virtual world to enjoy, that every avatar represents a real human being out there somewhere. With that spirit, all of us can continue to make this brave new world one that is a delight and a pleasure as it should be.
Here is what is meant to be enjoyable descriptions of the kinds of people you will find here. Each of us is one of these people, although, there are some who clearly demonstrate two or more of these types. The bottom line is that we both appreciate and respect each other. It's all good fun!
The Builder: These people are compelled to create. Whether it is a small region or a huge sim, they thoroughly enjoy logging in to continue creating a world that expresses a side of themselves that is one of the big pleasures of their lives. Most tend to be loners but find joy in showing off their creations to a few friends and some even sponsor events so that larger groups of people can see all that they have built. These are the people who give all of us a reason to explore the world of opensims.
The Designer: Like the Builder, these creative people love to make everything from clothing to furniture to houses, etc., for others to enjoy. We can differentiate them from Builders in that these people are less inclined to build a world and more motivated to design and create those things that make living in our worlds more enjoyable.
The Collector: With OpenSims being a virtual world that offers so many amazing free objects, this person just loves to explore, fill up his/her suitcase with cool goodies, and bring them home. Often you will find these happy people dividing up their sims to feature various themes from a pacific island to a medieval castle to an old seedy part of a downtown. We love collectors because they provide the rest of us with what we like to have, too.
The Entertainer: If you know someone who loves Djing or running a club or putting on events for others, then you know an entertainer. These wonderful people find great fulfillment in making the virtual experience all the more fun for all of us. Let them know how much you appreciate what they do for us. Give them some applause and a "thank you". That is all that they want and they deserve it, too.
The Socializer: Even though most of these people are not inclined to create worlds or objects, they are those who foster friendships and take part in various group activities or events. They sometimes need some coaxing to learn how to set up, furnish, or landscape a home on a parcel. For them, it is the social side of our virtual worlds that draws them to opensims. They make awesome friends.
The Romancer: They are all about love relationships. However, the males tend to enjoy the player aspect while the females are looking to be in a relationship. However, coupling does occur even in our virtual world. There are those who, having never met in real life face to face, enjoy a very close and sometimes intimate relationship with someone for a very long time.
The Loner: This person simply enjoys the virtual experience but is not inclined to build many relationships. They will either be satisfied with a few friends or perhaps be content just finding objects while exploring various regions to build a small region that will be their opensims home.
The Educator: This helpful person loves to show others how to make things work. They know everything about all of those buttons at the top of your viewer screen. If you need a resource or the link to a particular destination, they have it. Without them, most of us would still be trying to figure out how to duplicate an object or put clothes on our avatars; not to mention all of the more complex stuff that challenges those who want to learn even more.
The Aggravator: Yes, there are those amongst us who are annoying and sometimes totally aggravating. Instead of showing their best sides, they choose to use being in a virtual world as a way for them to vent their worst behavior. The reasons for their being this way are so numerous that it would take a psychologist to explain why they misbehave as they do. The key thing here is for the rest of us to simply not tolerate them. You can block or even ban anyone that annoys you. However, if you find that you have blocked everyone, it might be you who is the aggravator.
